Parties, prosecco, peer pressure – oh my!
The holidays are here again, and I’ve written up my 3 day guide to have the best skin possible for events. After all, the reason for the season is to show off a healthy glow, right?
Disclaimer: This guide is a skin prep routine I’ve found time and time again works for me. However, everyone’s skin is different, feel free to skip steps, add steps - do you and pay attention to your skin. Lastly - I’ve linked to all the products I use and other recommendations at the bottom.

Three Days Out
physical exfoliator + hydration
Apply a light physical exfoliator to slough off dead skin followed by intense hydration. Use a light physical exfoliator, or if it’s strong (i.e.feels rough), be gentle and mix with water. I use the GoopGlow exfoliator on this day, which is strong, but rub gently into my skin. Then, to really seal in moisture, use a sheet mask followed by your normal nightly routine (this should hopefully include at least one moisturizer of some kind, i.e. serum, cream, face oil, or all of the above). If your skin is super dry, you can even top this off with an overnight mask. The point of this day is to pamper your skin, by gently exfoliating the dead skin off, you will allow the ingredients from the masks in the next few days to absorb better and work their holiday magic.
Two Days Out
chemical exfoliating mask

Use a mask that contains AHA/BHAs or Glycolic Acid for the amount of time recommended, and proceed with your usual nightly routine. The reason for a chemical exfoliation? The mask will exfoliate the skin at a deeper level than yesterday's physical exfoliator, which not only reveals fresh skin cells, clearer skin, brighter + tighter texture, but will also allow your makeup application to be much smoother come the day of the event. My secret to a guaranteed glow? The Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask. Lately, I’ve been using it as an overnight mask as well (because winter dullness, hi), and oh myyyyy it’s just the gift that keeps giving.

One Day Out
chemical exfoliating mask + optional self tanner
Oh, it’s you again Tata! This mask, and many other AHA/BHA masks, are gentle enough to use two days in a row, and doing so can be the key to really maximizing the glow.
Optional Step: Self tanner is a good addition if you want to add a little color and have a fresh, lit from within glow for your party the next day. To apply, proceed with your nightly routine plus your self tanner, mixed into your moisturizer. Make sure to tan your neck and chest!
Additional optional step: For anyone suffering from dry skin – top this routine off with a hydrating overnight mask, avoiding your t-zone. Yes, it’s okay to put over self tanner!
Day Of
sweat + sheet mask + salud!
I love to start any event day the same, a quick (or not quick) workout to get the blood pumping. This step is of course optional all days, but highly encouraged the day of an event. A yoga class, or even a 20 minute sweat sesh, gets the blood pumping to your face, helps with puffiness and gives you that natural dewy glow. Next up? A few hours or right before, I love to use a sheet mask to lock in the moisture and really plump up the skin. Make sure to wash off the residue before you start your normal skincare/makeup routine. Then, open that bottle of champs and have fun!

Disclaimer #2:
This routine is not intended to dry out or make your skin sensitive, but, if your skin does react to being exfoliated, the most important thing to do is moisturize and give your skin a break. If you notice irritability at any point, which I’m hoping you don’t, then just take a day off and pick up where you left off. Remember, moisturized skin is happy skin.
